Established in 1927, UChicago Medicine is an academic medical health system based on the campus of the University of Chicago in Hyde Park. This sprawling multi-disciplinary medical archipelago has hospitals, outpatient clinics and physician practices throughout Chicago and its suburbs.

UChicago Medicine brings together many components, including the University of Chicago Medical Center, offering a full range of specialty care services for adults and children through more than 40 institutes and centers; the Pritzker School of Medicine, regularly ranked among the top medical schools in the United States; the University of Chicago Biological Sciences Division, which boasts 12 Nobel Prize winners in physiology and medicine.

Comprehensive Cancer Center: An NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, with more than 200 oncology specialists treating nearly all forms of cancer. As of October, 2017, UChicago Medicine is the only site in Illinois certified to provide CAR T-cell therapy, for children and adults.

Transplant Institute: A world leader in transplantation, the Center has performed more than 2,500 kidney transplants, 400 pancreas transplants, 1,600 liver transplants, and 300 heart transplants. The Institute is also home to one of the nation’s premier lung transplant teams, and among the select few hospitals in the nation that is actively studying the effectiveness of islet transplantation to treat advanced Type 1 diabetes.

Heart and Vascular Center: UChicago Medicine provides the full scope of care for any type of heart or vascular disorder in adults and children. Known for its expertise in complex conditions, the Center treats patients often turned away by other institutions, and is one of the nation’s most comprehensive programs using robotic surgery for cardiovascular operations.

Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine: UChicago Medicine attracts patients with complex musculoskeletal needs from throughout the region and the world. Continually striving to improve orthopaedic care, we actively research and develop new treatments, surgical techniques and devices for the field.Specialties include bone health and fragility, bone infection care, foot and ankle care, hand and wrist care, hip and knee care, shoulder and elbow care.

Digestive Disease Center: Since its inception, the Medical Center has been at the forefront of digestive disease, when its doctors created the nation’s first hospital-based gastroenterology department. Today, care is offered for all types of gastrointestinal conditions, from inflammatory bowel disease and liver disorders to esophageal, pancreatic, and bile duct diseases and all forms of gastrointestinal cancers.

Neurosciences: A team of neurological experts are highly skilled and compassionate in evaluating and treating patients considered untreatable at other hospitals. The Center regularly cares for children and adults with rare and chronic conditions, offering a holistic approach to care that takes into account the physical and emotional challenges of nervous system diseases.

Comer Children’s Hospital: UChicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital is a 172-bed acute care hospital, uniting advanced technology with a family-centered, kid-friendly philosophy to provide advanced specialty care for all children. Physicians at Comer Children's see children with medical conditions ranging from common to the most complex, annually admitting some 5,000 patients from the Midwest and around the world.
