In operation since 1979, Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital currently has 270 beds, 87 examination suites, 400 full- and part-time physicians, 1,200 caregivers, and a full-service International Patient Center. Interpreters assist patients in Arabic, English, French, German, Japanese, and Korean, and the hospital’s immigration counter assists foreigners with visa and other immigration requirements.

American visitors will feel at home with a 7-Eleven, Starbucks, and ATMs on the ground level of the hospital. Sukhumvit treats nearly 100,000 international patients annually, more than 16,000 of them from the US and Canada. Sukhumvit’s specialty centers include:

Eye Clinic: specializes in general ophthalmology, pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, retinal and vitreous conditions, glaucoma, oculoplastic reconstruction, and ocular oncology.

Hemodialysis Department: treats patients with acute or chronic renal failure. Certified by the Royal College of Physicians of Thailand, the department is known throughout the country for its success rate in kidney transplantation. Kidneys are received from the Thai Red Cross Organ Donation Center. Artificial kidney machines are also deployed for hemodialysis.

Liver and Digestive Institute: treats liver and other digestive abnormalities, including cirrhosis, fatty liver disease, pancreatitis, and infection of the bile duct and gallbladder. Specialty surgeries include liver transplantation as well as procedures on the liver, bile duct, gallbladder, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine.

Minimally Invasive Bone and Joint Center: provides evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for all bone- and joint related ailments. The center’s orthopedic surgeons treat broken bones, displaced joints, joint inflammation, slipped discs, and congenital malformations. They frequently perform microsurgery for the knee and shoulder as well as hip and knee replacements.

Plastic Surgery Clinic: offers all types of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, including rhinoplasty (nose), upper and lower blephaloplasty (eyelids), abdominal lipectomy (tummy tuck), facelift, liposuction, breast augmentation, chin augmentation, scar revision/repair, correction of congenital abnormalities, and post-mastectomy breast repair and reconstruction. UltraPulse and Sharplan carbon dioxide lasers are used to remove skin tags, warts, moles, and scars safely and effectively. Many procedures can be handled on an outpatient basis.

Samitivej Sukhumvit received its initial JCI award in 2007 and was most recently re-accredited in 2016.
