As its name indicates, Kyung Hee University East-West Neo Medical Center (KHNMC) merges the strengths of Western and Oriental medicine. It opened in 2006 on a foundation of more than a half-century’s experience in healthcare and medical education, starting with the College of Oriental Medicine in 1953 and later establishing schools of pharmacy, dentistry, medicine, and nursing.

KHNMC has since developed into a complete healthcare complex, with more than 130 doctors supported by 300 nurses and 20 coordinators in an 800-bed facility.

A large percentage of the medical staff has practiced, trained, and conducted research abroad, and many staff members speak English. KHNMC offers expertise in all areas of orthopedics, including rheumatology, spine and joint surgery, sports medicine, and acupuncture.

Additional specialties include Oriental medicine and dental implants. The hospital is organized around numerous disease-specific and organ-specific centers, as well as integrative centers in which doctors collaborate to combine the advantages of Western and Oriental medical treatment.

In 2007 alone, KHNMC treated 440,000 outpatients and 194,000 inpatients and performed more than 2,500 orthopedic surgeries. The hospital has also conducted five kidney transplants and three liver transplants. Its state-of-the-art equipment includes MRI, multi-detector CT, systems for robotic navigation
and video conference surgery, and PACS. KHNMC’s centers of excellence include:

Arthritis and Rheumatism Center, specializing in hip and joint resurfacing and replacement, with a particular specialization in treating patients with hemophilia. The center also uses a variety of traditional Oriental treatments in rehabilitation and pain management.

Spine Center, offering spinal surgery, chiropractic treatment, and Oriental medicine.

Dental Hospital, providing customized treatment options for various dentofacial problems. Dental services range from scaling, aesthetic dentistry, and implants to oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Health Promotion Center, offering a wide range of comprehensive screening programs. A diverse selection of medical examination packages is specifically designed to cover the areas of patients’ greatest concern and help patients understand how to control their risk for various diseases, such as diabetes, stroke, and cancer.

KHNMC’s International Health Care Center has English speaking staff and provides foreign patients with full access to all of the medical center’s services.
