Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai (MEHD) is the first overseas branch of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London, the world's oldest and largest ophthalmic facility, and one of the most respected centers for ophthalmic treatment, teaching, and research.
Moorfields NHS is a leading international tertiary care and training center in ophthalmology; more than half of all ophthalmologists practicing in the UK have received specialist training at Moorfields NHS. The entire operation employs some 1,200 people in eleven locations, with 24,000 procedures performed every year. MEHD has performed more than 31,000 procedures since opening its doors in 2007.
The Dubai branch hospital follows Moorfields’ 200-year-old traditions. The MEHD medical team consists of ten consultant ophthalmologists, two orthoptists, four optometrists, and a fully trained nursing staff. Services at MEHD include treatment for various eye conditions and disorders including age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, plus Lasik vision correction, and oculoplastic procedures. Eye surgeries include laser refractive, corneal, oculoplastic, strabismus, paediatric and glaucoma to complex vitreoretinal surgeries.
Basic screenings and eye examinations are also offered. MEHD also has access to more than 100 doctors in Moorfields London should the need arise.
MEHD staff and support staff are multilingual and speak Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Farsi, Hindi, Urdu, and Tagalog.
Support for international patients includes assistance with travel, accommodations, local transport and other arrangements.
