Seventeen full-service general hospitals and 13 outpatient clinics operate within the Acibadem network, which is more than a consortium of bricks-and-mortar healthcare facilities. Its business interests include hospital design and construction, mobile clinics, health and life insurance, facilities management, laboratory testing, and medical education. In 2012, Acibadem became part of the world’s second largest healthcare company, International Healthcare Holdings (IHH), a global network that operates hospitals and clinics in Malaysia, Singapore, India, China, and Brunei.
Ac?badem currently operates 21 hospitals and 17 clinics in 4 countries. Centers of Excellence throughout the network include nine Cancer Centers (surgical, radiotherapy, chemotherapy), 12 Heart Care Centers (pediatric and adult cardiology and cardiac surgery), 10 In Vitro Fertilization Centers (Infertility – IVF), seven Organ Transplantation Centers (liver, kidney, bone marrow), five Spine Centers, 10 Nuclear Medicine and seven Robotic Surgery Centers. A newly opened Sports Clinic at Acibadem Fulya adds to the mix, along with Turkey's first comprehensive medical wellness clinic (the Acibadem Life Medical Clinic) at the Bodrum facility.
Acibadem Kadiköy Hospital in Istanbul was the first hospital in the group. Renovated twice since its opening in 1991, the hospital boasts the use of Flash CT, the fastest and lowest-radiation computed tomography, which can perform angiography and full-body tomography in seconds. Kadiköy is renowned for its specialists in in-vitro fertilization (IVF), cardiology and cardiovascular surgery, and the management of risky pregnancies. The Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic is known for excellence in hand surgery.
Acibadem’s International Hospital in Istanbul was Turkey’s first Western-style private hospital. It opened its doors in 1989 and joined the Acibadem chain in 2005. In 2006, all clinic areas, doctors’ examination rooms, and inpatient floors were renovated. The hospital offers a modern intensive care unit and dialysis units for renal patients, as well as emergency observation beds and post-coronary angiography observation units. Advanced imaging for cancer patients employs 1.5 Tesla MRI.
Acibadem Maslak Hospital in Istanbul occupies more than 430,000 square feet (40,000 square meters) of covered area, employing both “smart building” technology and a nearly paper-free electronic record-keeping system. Specialty clinics serve patients seeking treatment for stroke, thyroid disorders, obesity, and infertility.
In addition to Flash CT, the Maslak Cancer Center utilizes Linear Accelerator (LINAC) Trilogy equipment, which minimizes damage to healthy tissue in cancer treatment; RapidArc (Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy) technology (which reduces 30-minute cancer treatments to two minutes); CyberKnife to treat tumors that cannot be treated with conventional radiotherapy; and the da Vinci SI robot for laparoscopic surgery.
The International Patient Services Center of Acibadem Hospitals assists health travelers with consultations, diagnostic services, billing and insurance, travel and lodging arrangements, and language interpretation. Its staff members provide cost estimates, schedule medical appointments, assist with international insurance arrangements, help with visa procurement, book hotel rooms, arrange ground transportation from the airport, coordinate hospital admissions, provide copies of medical records, assist with discharge and payment, and support continuing communication with physicians after patient departure.
Health travelers seeking a consultation can send their medical history, diagnostic images, and laboratory test results for review by an Acibadem physician, who will advise a recommended course of treatment and assess whether travel to Turkey is warranted.
Currently two Acibadem facilities, Maslak Hospital and Adana Hospital, are JCI-accredited.
